This Saturdays big pre Blackpool bash is looking like being the busiest ever. We will open the doors at 5.45 and the first team will perform at about 6.30. Tickets are available from Jayne and Mark now and there is all the usual things like a raffle and the Food available to buy which is organized as usual by the Parents etc of the dancers. Please bring as many friends as possible to give the teams a big night to remember. The evening should go on until about 11.00. An idea of the running order for the teams will be given out by the teachers before the day.

Mark and Jayne Shutlar have won the prestigious Carl Alan Ballroom, Latin and Sequence Teacher’s Award – the dance world’s equivalent of an Oscar!
The Carl Alan awards honour those who’ve made a significant contribution to the dance and theatre industry. There are three discplines (ballroom/Latin/sequence, theatre dance and freestyle), and five awards are made in each category – the Performer’s Award, the Teacher’s Award, the Competitive Coach/Choreography Award, the Outstanding Services to Dance Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Even a nomination in the ballroom and Latin teacher’s award was a high honour for Mark and Jayne, but to actually win is an incredible testament to their teaching and dedication.
Past winners of Carl Alan awards include the likes of Darcey Bussell, Bruce Forsyth, Peggy Spencer, Karen and Marcus Hilton, Matthew and Nicole Cutler, Len Goodman, Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova. Skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the Theatre Coach/Choreographer Award this year, so Mark and Jayne are in excellent company!

On Saturday Mark took a group of Junior pupils to Montmorency (near Paris) to take part in a Demonstration evening. We all had a wonderful time and the team danced both Nightmare and Hypnotic routines. The audience were ecstatic and the teams were asked to perform an encore. Special thanks to Anne Bunnis who interpreted and helped us all on the trip!

Well done to all Starlite pupils, especially Rhianna Claridge and Nicole Moy for coming first in the Junior all-girl Latin.
More results to follow.
Mark wishes to thank all the pupils for helping him to win the Junior/Juvenile Teacher award, even though he wasn’t there to collect it!

We’ve been digging around in the archives, and here’s a real blast from the past – some vintage early ’90s Come Dancing starring Mark and Jayne, dancing for London North.

Starlite had a great time at Blackpool for the Junior Formation Dance Championships in April.
The Starlite Hypnotic Team came third from an entry of 27 teams in the Junior 4-couple event. The Starlite Dance Team came 10th in the same event.
The Starlite Juvenile Team finished 7th in the Juvenile 8-couple event (missing the final by one place).
Dance Team Starlite also finished 7th of 21 teams in their event, the Junior 8-couple event – missing the final by one place and one mark! The Starlite Latin Team finished 18th in the same event.
The Starlite Nightmare Team came 8th of 24 teams in the Juvenile 4-couple event, with the Starlite Sparklers 9th and the Starlite Bond Team 14th.
Well done to all our teams!
