Mark and Jayne Shutlar have won the prestigious Carl Alan Ballroom, Latin and Sequence Teacher’s Award – the dance world’s equivalent of an Oscar!
The Carl Alan awards honour those who’ve made a significant contribution to the dance and theatre industry. There are three discplines (ballroom/Latin/sequence, theatre dance and freestyle), and five awards are made in each category – the Performer’s Award, the Teacher’s Award, the Competitive Coach/Choreography Award, the Outstanding Services to Dance Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Even a nomination in the ballroom and Latin teacher’s award was a high honour for Mark and Jayne, but to actually win is an incredible testament to their teaching and dedication.
Past winners of Carl Alan awards include the likes of Darcey Bussell, Bruce Forsyth, Peggy Spencer, Karen and Marcus Hilton, Matthew and Nicole Cutler, Len Goodman, Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova. Skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the Theatre Coach/Choreographer Award this year, so Mark and Jayne are in excellent company!
